The story
Lawyer Caspar Leinen (Elyas M'Barek) comes across a spectacular case through a mandatory defense: The 70-year-old Italian Fabrizio Collini (Franco Nero) has worked blamelessly in Germany for over 30 years and then, apparently for no reason, he kills the respected industrialist Hans Meyer (Manfred Zapatka ) in his Berlin hotel suite. For Caspar there is much more at stake than his first big case as a criminal defense lawyer. The victim is the grandfather of his childhood sweetheart Johanna (Alexandra Maria Lara) and was like a surrogate father for Caspar. He also has an opponent in the defense lawyer legend Richard Mattinger (Heiner Lauterbach) who seems to be far superior to him. Caspar has to find out why Collini murdered an exemplary person like Meyer. There is also immense public interest in the case, but Collini remains silent about his motive. As Caspar delves deeper and deeper into the case against all odds, he is not only confronted with his own past, but also comes across one of the biggest judicial scandals in German history and a truth that no one wants to know.
