The story

Tahiti, 1891. French artist Paul Gauguin has retreated into his self-imposed exile in French Polynesia. He allows himself to be swallowed up by the jungle, defies loneliness, hunger and illness. During his explorations of the island he meets the young native Tehura, who will become his muse and also the model for his most famous paintings. As a free man in the wilderness - far away from the politics and rules of a civilized Europe, he develops a new style of painting.

Paul Gauguin, rejected by French society and rejected by the people of the island, leads a life of financial hardship and inner conflict. As an obsessive artist, always driven by the desire to break with social conventions, he creates extraordinary works of art for his time in the wilderness of Tahiti. With great expressiveness and sensitivity, Vincent Cassel brings Gauguin's inner brokenness and ambivalent character to the screen in Edouard Deluc's debut work of the same name. Cassel, the “Grand Maître” of French acting, moves easily between Hollywood films (Ocean's Twelve, Black Swan, Jason Bourne) and award-winning arthouse cinema (A Dark Desire, My One, My Everything).
