The story
Between professional ambitions, family planning and relationship crises, the four best friends Ryan (Regina Hall), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Dina (Tiffany Haddish) have simply lost touch with each other. It's been five long years since they last celebrated together - far too long for the party queens that they actually are. A long overdue GIRLS TRIP to the Essence Festival in New Orleans should finally reunite the “Flossy Posse” after years.
In addition to hot guys, a spectacular dance-off and finally a few too many drops of absinthe, they leave no stone unturned to revive their wild college days. The party trip of a lifetime, which will make you blush just by watching it, reminds the girls that ultimately you can't rely on anyone as much as your best friends. Director Malcom D. Lee (“Scary Movie 5,” “Best Man” series) stages a weekend full of crazy escapades and unforeseen adventures that only best friends can experience together. Kate Walsh (“Grey's Anatomy”), Mike Colter (“Marvel's Luke Cage”), Larenz Tate (“Ray”) and Kofi Siriboe (“Whiplash”) appear in supporting roles.
Producer Will Packer (“Straight Outta Compton”) has already proven his sense of wacky humor with the comedies “The Bridesmaids Inc” and “Ride Along 1+2”. With GIRLS TRIP he filmed a script by “Southpark” author Erica Rivinoja as well as Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver.
