Do you want to start a business but don't know exactly how yet? Or do you already have a startup but need tips on business management, finding investors and many other topics? Then the Udemy course “The digital start-up scene - starting a business made easy” is a perfect starting point. We took a closer look at the video course and also asked Philipp himself to find out whether this course is right for you.
Interview with the entrepreneur and instructor of the course Philipp Hartmann
allmaxx: Why did you decide to publish your knowledge as a founder in a Udemy course?
Philipp: “I am generally very open about my experiences as a founder. In addition, as a mentor in various accelerator programs, I am used to acting according to the motto “Give First”. So it was only logical for me to follow Udemy’s request and publish my own course and share my knowledge with others.”
allmaxx: What do you generally think about starting a business while you're studying or straight after your studies? Doesn’t it make more sense to gain experience in a “normal job” first?
Philipp: “I started a business straight after graduating and unfortunately made a lot of beginner’s mistakes. However, I would do it the same way again and again! So for me my first start-up was like a kind of “Executive MBA”. I was still pretty young back then and simply extended my student life: I lived on EUR 400 per month, lived in a shared apartment with my colleagues and put full focus on my first company. It should also not be forgotten that the so-called opportunity costs increase from year to year if you start a business later in your career. At some point you get used to the security, the fancy car, the big apartment. Consulting firms in particular manage to keep employees in the system with ever new career goals and bonus payments.”
allmaxx: How can students benefit from your course and are more planned?
Philipp: “The most important thing about my course is to give the students a personal, authentic overview of the start-up scene in Germany. In addition, I would be happy if I - together with my colleagues at Rheingau - could offer in-depth Udemy courses on individual subject areas such as “Team Constellation”, “Go-To-Market Strategy” or “Exit Negotiations”. It is best for the Udemy community to decide exactly what topics these will ultimately be. ;-)”
