Successful as an event manager

Benjamin Rodloff got started after studying at the EMBA

Anyone planning an event in Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein often ends up with Benjamin Rodloff from LED Events. The 26-year-old organizes numerous events from Bad Oldesloe. After completing his bachelor's degree in media, sports and event management at the European Media and Business Academy (EMBA), he hit the ground running. His customers include Unilever, Olympus and also the Schnelsen exhibition halls.

Benjamin Rodloff started as a DJ and sound engineer during his bachelor's degree at the EMBA in 2008. He now employs five people and works for large companies such as Red Bull, the Fairmont Hotel Vier Seasons and the o2 World Hamburg. “With us, the customer can rent a single microphone, but also have their summer party or a trade fair appearance planned and carried out,” he explains.

In the region, Benjamin Rodloff helped organize the SUP and Beach Sports Festival on Fehmarn last summer for around 8,000 visitors. And at the RED Bull Coast 2 Coast Kite Event he was also responsible for the booth sound and after-show party on Fehmarn. However, the size of an event is not crucial for Benjamin Rodloff. “I prefer to serve customers individually and therefore have more hotels and business customers than large party events,” says the event manager.

He learned his craft at the EMBA in Hamburg. Benjamin Rodloff completed his bachelor's degree in media, sports and event manager there in 2011. “The practical studies helped me a lot. While I was still at the EMBA, I was able to make important contacts with practical lecturers or project partners, some of which still exist today,” he says.

Through the EMBA, he also did a voluntary internship at BSP Media in 2009 and helped organize the Red Bull Cliff Diving there. “I maintained contact beyond my studies. I now work with BSP Media as a partner,” says Benjamin Rodloff. During his time at the EMBA, in addition to the basics of event management, he also learned how to use professional software programs such as Final Cut, Photoshop and Indesign. “This is a great benefit to me today when I work with service providers in this area,” he says.

The 26-year-old has rented office space and a warehouse for all of his equipment in the Bad Oldesloe commercial area. “Although our main customers are in Hamburg and Lübeck, I feel very connected to my hometown of Bad Oldesloe.” Even during my studies and in the early days of becoming self-employed, LED Events’ first projects were regional networking events. “We want to pool the strengths of the region and bring important decision-makers from business, politics, social affairs, culture and sport to one table.”

When asked what he particularly loves about his job, Benjamin Rodloff immediately had the right answer: “I think it’s the variety. One day I'm sitting in the office creating offers, the next I'm running an event in a fancy hotel, then I'm organizing an outdoor event and a few days later I'm cleaning and maintaining the equipment in the warehouse. It’s all part of it and it’s just fun.”
