Cold Brew – this new coffee trend is currently on everyone’s lips, from New York to Berlin. As an intern at Melitta, Maximilian Trapp was closely involved in the development of cold brew products. In the interview, the 23-year-old, who is studying business psychology at Osnabrück University, talks about the exciting experiences he has had and what his personal favorite cold brew recipe is.
As an intern at Melitta, you were closely involved in the development of the cold brew products. What was particularly interesting?
The Melitta® Cold Brew concept was initiated in late summer 2015, shortly before the start of my internship. As a result, I was able to experience almost the entire development: from the first analytical studies as well as the testing and selection of various cocktail creations for the recipe booklet to the development of a corporate design and the design of the website.
The big highlight for me was the opportunity to be the main contact for the Cold Brew accessory products. The experiences that I was able to gain in this context as an independent product manager were incredibly exciting and instructive for me.
Why did you apply to Melitta as an intern in the first place? What attracted you?
I found the opportunity to complete an internship in product management at a renowned and traditional brand manufacturer in the consumer goods industry very attractive. I love being able to help shape the development of products that I use in everyday life and connect with my own experiences. For me as a young coffee fan and aspiring business psychologist, Melitta has a great fascination as an employer.
What could happen next after graduation? Maybe a career with Melitta?
First, I'll continue with my bachelor's thesis, which I will write as part of my internship at Melitta. My big dream is to start a master's degree at the Marketing Center of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in the fall. Then back to Melitta? Very gladly!
What is your personal favorite cold brew recipe? What would you serve your friends?
My favorite cocktail creation is the Cold Brew Powered Strawberry Mojito. Delicious Melitta® Cold Brew, strawberry syrup and fresh mint, that just goes really well together. Served on cold ice cubes and poured with mineral water, the drink is, for me, the perfect refreshment for the summer. This is how the first balcony party can come!

A friend made me aware of your competition and asked if it could be something for us? And whether that's something for us! We are an environmentally conscious household and would be very happy to receive a great filter machine from you. The current one is bubbling a lot and sometimes the pot doesn't quite hit it anymore - that's just how they are, the slightly senile little machines inherited from grandma. The remaining household helpers would certainly be ideal to get the boys going a bit. At least then you and I would have tried everything humanly possible. ;-)
My favorite product from you is the white instant cappuccino. When I'm in the clinic for my doctoral thesis, things have to happen quickly when there's time. Then boiling water and making a cup is the best thing that can happen to me.
